Various Forex Techniques and Terms

Many different techniques and indicators can be used to follow and predict trends in markets. The objective is to predict the major components of the trend: its direction, its level and the timing. Some of the most widely known include:

Bollinger Bands
Bollinger Bands - a range of price volatility named after John Bollinger, who invented them in the 1980s. They evolved from the concept of trading bands, and can be used to measure the relative height or depth of price. A band is plotted two standard deviations away from a simple moving average. As standard deviation is a measure of volatility, Bollinger Bands adjust themselves to market conditions. When the markets become more volatile, the bands widen (move further away from the average), and during less volatile periods, the bands contract (move closer to the average).

Bollinger Bands are one of the most popular technical analysis techniques. The closer prices move to the upper band, the more overbought is the market, and the closer prices move to the lower band, the more oversold is the market.
CCI - Commodity Channel Index
CCI - Commodity Channel Index - an oscillator used to help determine when an investment instrument has been overbought and oversold. The Commodity Channel Index, first developed by Donald Lambert, quantifies the relationship between the asset's price, a moving average (MA) of the asset's price, and normal deviations (D) from that average. The CCI has seen substantial growth in popularity amongst technical investors; today's traders often use the indicator to determine cyclical trends in equities and currencies as well as commodities.

The CCI, when used in conjunction with other oscillators, can be a valuable tool to identify potential peaks and valleys in the asset's price, and thus provide investors with reasonable evidence to estimate changes in the direction of price movement of the asset.

Hikkake Pattern and Moving Averages
Hikkake Pattern - a method of identifying reversals and continuation patterns. Used for determining market turning-points and continuations (also known as trending behavior). It is a simple pattern that can be viewed in market price data, using traditional bar charts, or Japanese candlestick charts.

The hikkake pattern was first discovered and introduced to the financial community through a series of published articles written by technical analyst Daniel L. Chesler, CMT

Moving averages - are used to emphasize the direction of a trend and to smooth out price and volume fluctuations, or "noise", that can confuse interpretation. There are seven different types of moving averages:
simple (arithmetic)
exponential
time series
weighed
triangular
variable
volume adjusted
The only significant difference between the various types of moving averages is the weight assigned to the most recent data. For example, a simple (arithmetic) moving average is calculated by adding the closing price of the instrument for a number of time periods, then dividing this total by the number of time periods.

The most popular method of interpreting a moving average is to compare the relationship between a moving average of the instrument's closing price, and the instrument's closing price itself.

Sell signal: when the instruments price falls below its moving average
Buy signal: when the instruments price rises above its moving average
The other technique is called the double crossover, which uses short-term and long-term averages. Typically, upward momentum is confirmed when a short-term average (e.g., 15-day) crosses above a longer-term average (e.g., 50-day). Downward momentum is confirmed when a short-term average crosses below a long-term average.

Hack has several related meanings in the technology and computer science fields. It may refer to a clever or quick fix to a computer program problem......

The term "hack" was first used by US university computing center staff in the mid-1960s. The context determined whether the complimentary or derogatory meanings were implied. Phrases such as "ugly hack" or "quick hack" generally referred to the latter meaning; phrases such as "cool hack" or "neat hack", to the former. In modern computer programming, a "hack" can refer to a solution or method which functions correctly but which is "ugly" in its concept, which works outside the accepted structures and norms of the environment, or which is not easily extendable or maintainable (see kludge). The programmer keeps beating on it until a solution is found. The jargon used by hackers is called Hackish (see the Jargon file). This should not be confused with "1337" or "leetspeak."

In a similar vein, a "hack" may refer to works outside of computer programming. For example, a math hack means a clever solution to a mathematical problem. The GNU General Public License has been described as[who?] a copyright hack because it cleverly uses the copyright laws for a purpose the lawmakers did not foresee. All of these uses now also seem to be spreading beyond MIT as well.

On many internet websites and in everyday language the word "hack" can be slang for "copy", "imitation" or "rip-off."

The term has since acquired an additional and now more common meaning, since approximately the 1980s; this more modern definition was initially associated with crackers. This growing use of the term "hack" is to refer to a program that (sometimes illegally) modifies another program, often a computer game, giving the user access to features otherwise inaccessible to them. As an example of this use, for Palm OS users (until the 4th iteration of this operating system), a "hack" refers to an extension of the operating system which provides additional functionality. The general media also uses this term to describe the act of illegally breaking into a computer, but this meaning is disputed.

The term is additionally used by electronics hobbyists to refer to simple modifications to electronic hardware such as a graphing calculators, video game consoles, electronic musical keyboards or other device (see CueCat for a notorious example) to expose or add functionality to a device that was unintended for use by end users by the company who created it. A number of techno musicians have modified 1980s-era Casio SK-1 sampling keyboards to create unusual sounds by doing circuit bending: connecting wires to different leads of the integrated circuit chips. The results of these DIY experiments range from opening up previously inaccessible features that were part of the chip design to producing the strange, disharmonic digital tones that became part of the techno music style.

Ethernet is a family of frame-based computer networking technologies for local area networks (LANs). The name comes from the physical concept of the ether. Now-a-days every institution needs automation. As a part of college automation, we have decided to do a project “Voice Interactive System for College Automation”. Our project allows the user to know the student’s attendance and marks quickly through the telephone line without the intention of the college authority. In the hardware side embedded system has been used. A 20 pin microcontroller 89C2051 is used because of its compatibility with our hardware. This microcontroller controls the whole hardware. Telephone line is used for communication purpose. Visual Basic has been used for software programming. Presentation in the class and outcome of the university are made reachable to the parents by our project. It will be very obliging to the parents to be acquainted with their son’s/daughter’s recital in the college.

Digital Calendar (AT89C2051)

This Project Digital Calendar using Microcontroller is an advanced digital calendar, which displays the Date, Day, Month over the LED display. It has an 8 bit Microcontroller which runs on the Program embedded on its ROM. Separate LED’s are provided for the date, day, and month. The system has an battery backup so that it can run over all the time even during the power failure. Totally there are 31 LED’s for indicating the date and 12 LED’s for indicating the Month and 7 LED’s to indicate the day. All the above systems are controlled by the Microcontroller. In our project we are using the popular 8 bit microcontroller AT89C2051. It is a 20 pin microcontroller.

BIOMEDICAL MONITORING SYSTEM (AT89C2051 + TX/RX)

In spite of the improvement of communication link and despite all progress in advanced communication technologies, there are still very few functioning commercial wireless monitoring systems, which are most off-line, and there are still a number of issues to deal with. Therefore, there is a strong need for investigating the possibility of design and implementation of an interactive real-time wireless communication system. In our project, a generic real-time wireless communication system was designed and developed for short and long term remote patient-monitoring applying wireless protocol. The primary function of this system is to monitor the temperature and Heart Beat of the Patient and the Data collected by the sensors are sent to the Microcontroller. The Microcontroller transmits the data over the air. At the receiving end a receiver is used to receive the data and it is decoded and fed to Microcontroller, which is then displayed over the LCD display. If there is a dangerous change in patient's status an alarm is also sounded.

Automatic Room light Controller with Visitor Counter (AT89S52)

This Project “Automatic Room Light Controller with Visitor Counter using Microcontroller” is a reliable circuit that takes over the task of controlling the room lights as well us counting number of persons/ visitors in the room very accurately. When somebody enters into the room then the counter is incremented by one and the light in the room will be switched ON and when any one leaves the room then the counter is decremented by one. The light will be only switched OFF until all the persons in the room go out. The total number of persons inside the room is also displayed on the seven segment displays. The microcontroller does the above job. It receives the signals from the sensors, and this signal is operated under the control of software which is stored in ROM. GSM (Global System for Mobile communications: originally from Groupe Spécial Mobile) is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. Its promoter, the GSM Association, estimates that 80% of the global mobile market uses the standard.[1] GSM is used by over 3 billion people across more than 212 countries and territories.[2][3] Its ubiquity makes international roaming very common between mobile phone operators, enabling subscribers to use their phones in many parts of the world. GSM differs from its predecessors in that both signaling and speech channels are digital, and thus is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system. This has also meant that data communication was easy to build into the system.

The ubiquity of the GSM standard has been an advantage to both consumers (who benefit from the ability to roam and switch carriers without switching phones) and also to network operators (who can choose equipment from any of the many vendors implementing GSM[4]). GSM also pioneered a low-cost (to the network carrier) alternative to voice calls, the Short message service (SMS, also called "text messaging"), which is now supported on other mobile standards as well. Another advantage is that the standard includes one worldwide Emergency telephone number, 112[5]. This makes it easier for international travellers to connect to emergency services without knowing the local emergency number.

Newer versions of the standard were backward-compatible with the original GSM phones. A. Dear Noel,
In the Philippines, microfinancing is an activity dominated by rural banks, non-government organizations (NGO) and people organizations (PO), with support from international donor organizations. It is a strategy used to combat poverty particularly in the rural areas.

There are several approaches to engaging in microfinancing. You can get accreditation from the NGOs like Grameen Bank, CARE Philippines and government institutions like Small Business Guarantee and Finance Corporation (SBGCF). Partnering with these organizations will provide you logistics, knowledge and support in pursuing this endeavor.

However, you can also decide to go at it alone - but with a lot more work, more risks and more resources.

I believe the most efficient private entities who are engaged in micro-lending are the "Bombays". Although they operate illegally as usurers, they have actually mastered the technique of marketing and collecting, so much so that they have flourished and grew and their simple "5-6" operation have been passed through generations.

One of your primary concerns will be to establish a system or mechanism that would allow your micro-loan clients to repay their loans on time. Two key microloan policy strategies recommended by experts (including USAID) are cash flow-based client analysis and "zero tolerance" for overdue repayments.

With cash flow-based lending, you should get a clear picture of revenue streams of your potential clients. You can determine their actual and potential income, and, with this information in hand, determine how much of a loan the potential clients can afford to handle. You can also devise a loan repayment schedule that fits the clients' cash flow.

Given this, it is imperative that you select your clients very carefully. Your client must have the ability to pay you back with cash, not with chickens or vegetables harvested from their gardens. Like the "Bombays," they offer their money to legitimate small businesses or to someone who wants to make an honest living through a means of livelihood, like sidewalk vendors, small carinderias, and stalls in the public markets.

Regarding the "zero tolerance" policy, you must view micro-loans in the same way the banks view the loans that they provide. It is not a social service. You must be "zero tolerant" of any late payment, or non-payment of loans regardless of any contributing circumstances. With this approach, it can be very profitable for you. Interest rates on micro-loans must be market-driven, and must be high enough to allow you to cover all costs associated with the loan. Here in the US, many micro-lenders even charges the same kind of interest rates charged by credit cards.

Providing microfinancing, however, is a big undertaking. You must have enough support and logistics to allow you to seek out clients (which would be very easy to find in the Philippines), however to ensure repayment and pursue laggard clients is another story. Seek out specialized training in operating a successful microfinance operation (the Asian Institute of Management in Makati offers such courses). Remember, you must learn not only to run a financing operation, but how to provide excellent client service and nurture long-term relationships with your microfinance clients.

Your capability to collect repayments will depend on your ability to establish a presence among your clientele. If you have a wide clientele located in Metro Manila, Laguna, Iloilo or Baguio, it may be difficult to collect back on your loans.

Going back to the "Bombays," note that they limit their operations in one specific area where they can easily manage the collection process and keep a very strict watch on the businesses that they lent their money. For example, one person will concentrate only at Libertad St in Pasay City, another one will concentrate only at Paco Market and its vicinity, another at Pasong Tamo, Makati, Guadalupe, Caloocan, Malabon, etc. The main purpose of these concentrations is to be able to collect 100% of the calculated and agreed interest of the principal, every day.

An important part of your logistics is software that will allow you to keep track and monitor repayments. Your software must instantly flag any instance of late repayment, or non-repayment. Given that microfinance loans are typically of short duration (usually some where between 30 days and six months), and frequently call for weekly or bi-weekly repayments. Keeping track of payment due dates for hundreds of clients is a demanding task, and can only be achieved if you have a good IT infrastructure. If you cannot have this kind of software, a very tight record keeping is necessary to allow you to monitor payments and repayment schedules. The "Bombays" keep a small notebook to record the accounts of all their clients.

Another more secure example of Microlending is the pawnshop. If your money is sufficient to capitalize one, this is the safest way to go because you don't lend any money without collateral. This business require accreditation from the Central Bank as a financial institution, you may check the rules and regulations from there.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 13: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken serious note of the unlawful operations of private universities and asked the students and their parents to ensure accredited status of a university or institution before taking admission in such institutions.

The Commission on Friday issued the list of 97 chartered universities and institutions - 53 public and 44 private. The HEC in a statement said some of the private universities and degree-awarding institutions, which have been given charter by a provincial government, were operating unlawfully in other provinces.

The Commission said some of the private institutions were putting up misleading advertisements in the press with the claim of either representing foreign universities/institutions, or having degree-awarding status.

The recognized universities/degree-awarding institutions in the public and private sectors are:

1)Make sure battery is fully charged atleast 70 to 80 %.

2)Take back up of all important data like contacts list and personal files.

Tip 1
For Nokia N-Gage User: - you can install .sis files directly to your mobile by simply using the cable given with your mobile phones. Just do the following
Plug cable to your mobile, place the .sis file anywhere on (MMC) and not in any folders then disconnect the cable and look for it in File Manager. You can find it there

Tip 2
By regularly checking the task manager which can be accessed by holding down the menu button you can save on battery and system memory being used by mobile phone and this make your mobile working smoothly.You can put your query about Unlock code for mobile phones in comment section

Tip 3
It is advisable to keep your Bluetooth off or set cellular phone visibility to hidden this will avoid being "blue jacked" .You can check this by searching blue tooth device from your mobile when you at public place say at garden or shopping mall or stadium.
Tip 6
You can save memory when installing apps by Bluetooth. This is done by using the nokia phone suite and a serial Bluetooth connection. This trick only work with .sis files

300 plot summary
Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, this film takes place during the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC where an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 (Persian king Xerxes before war has about 170,000 army) men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The Spartan defeat was not the one expected as a local shepherd named Ephialtes defected to the Persians and informed Xerxes of a separate path through Thermopylae, which the Persians could use to outflank the Greeks.

HOLLYWOOD COMES THROUGH

Occasionally the movie industry produces a historical movie that is ,for the most part, grounded in historical fact. Such a movie is the recently released "Gladiator." In Hollywood's brief history of making movies, it has re-written history more than once. It's not that Hollwood intentionally meant to mislead the public or deliver false historical information. It is just that a good story sells, and depending on the mood of the "mob" at the time they maybe had to alter the facts a bit to provide an entertaining movie that the public would buy. In "Gladiator," they have managed to combine the best of both. The story is gripping enough to be entertaining and historically factual enough to appease the most skeptical historian.

Separating Fact from Fiction
As I watched the movie I became a detective of historical fact and fiction. I wanted to know if the movie had any basis in fact and if it did what were those facts, and if not where did the movie delve into fiction? In my research I found that while there were non-factual parts of the movie, most of it was soundly based in historical fact. There was only one area that I could find that glaringly deviated from the truth. That was in the area of relationships. There is no documentation to prove that Commodus had a sister although he was certainly Marcus Aurelius's son. And although killing each other was part of the Caesar history, the idea that Commodus killed his father is pure fiction. Historians generally agree that Marcus Aurelius died of the plague in Vienna on March 17, 180 AD (AURELIUS.HTM pg. 1 lines 42-43). It is also untrue that Marcus found his son unfit to rule. He had Commodus named Caesar when he was 5 years old and named him as his successor when he was 17 (romanemp/commod.htm pg. 2 lines 1-6). As a Roman father he was undoubtedly loving and dotting and spoiled his son terribly. Unfortunately, the movie was quite accurate in its portrayal of Commodus. While most historians depict him as he appears in the movie, vain, evil, dictatorial and insane, (gladiator/gladiator-ch7.htm) there is also evidence that in life as in the movie he was popular with the "mob." He was very generous to the lower classes and gave them money and other gifts. He held lots of extravagant games in the Coliseum and he liked to participate in them. This delighted the "mob" but the senate hated him for it. During his time as Caesar, several attempts were made on his life. It is not true that he died in the arena but was strangled to death as he bathed in his bath (roman/commod.htm).

Caesar and the Army
If you got the impression from the movie that Marcus Aurelius was a "good" Caesar you would be right, at least as far as Caesars go. The movie accurately portrayed Marcus Aurelius as a ruler who was tired of war and bloodshed. In real life he was probably not suited to fill the role of Caesar. History remembers him as the "philosopher king." He was a man who was much more comfortable with peace and intellectual pursuits than with wars. During his reign the pax romana which was a long period of peace in Rome failed and as shown in the movie he found himself locked in endless wars with the Germanic people. The Germanic tribes had been hard to conquer (AURELIUS.HTM pg. 1 lines 27-41). Here again the movie takes liberties with the truth because he died before he completed his conquest of Germany. His reign as Emperor had been long and difficult. And the Caesar who was more suited to peace than to war finally got to rest.

As for his general Maximus, he never existed. But that is not to say a relationship much like theirs would not have been possible. There was great loyalty to good leaders in Rome and Marcus Aurelius was considered a "good" Caesar (Mediterranean/Maurelius.html). Yet I wondered if it was possible for a Spaniard to become a "general' in the Roman army? The answer was yes. By the end of the First century the Roman colonization of Spain was complete. The people of Spain spoke Latin, used Roman institutions like slave labor, and traded with Roman money. Spain provided Rome with some of its greatest writers, orators and politicians and soldiers (Marcus Aurelius was born in Spain). Rome had granted the Hispanic population citizenship and had given many of them land to farm. Roman soldiers married Spanish women and their children were Roman citizens (heritage/roman5.html). The movie quite accurately describes the Roman army. It used swords, shields, and bows and arrows as weapons. It depended mainly on its artillery regiments to do the fighting and iIn large campaigns the army used catapults. The Romans did have a love of horses but they rarely saw battle (aadepa/army.html pg. 3 lines 39-46). Much to my amazement the uniforms and armor of the soldiers were historically correct.

Togas, Treachery and the Coliseum
So often in Hollywood's epic historical movies they have taken great liberties with the clothing of an era. This did not happen in "Gladiator." The soldiers, Emperors, gladiators, noble women and children as well as the common citizens were dressed to Roman Imperial perfection. The dress of Roman citizens as seen painted on ancient temple walls, in mosaics and in sculptures came to life in "Gladiator." As an interesting aside: good taste at the time dictated that men wear only one ring (Donnclass/Romanlife.html pg. 3 lines 47-56). Did you notice that when Maximus walked through the wheat field in his dream he had on only one ring? I don't know if this was intentional but it was an interesting historical detail.

In Roman Times as in the movie it was very possible that someone like Maximus could have been betrayed. Treachery, conspiracy, and plots were common in Roman history. Plus the Romans built replicas of Rome all over the Empire; there are ruins of Roman cities and arenas everywhere in Europe and North Africa (Blood/blood.html). The movie accurately depicted gladiatorial schools where slaves and criminals were taught to be gladiators (bmcmanus/arena.html). It was probably not uncommon for an innocent man to end up as a gladiator now and then. Even if you found yourself in this predicament though, all was not lost, if you were good enough and "won the crowd" you could earn your freedom as well as some fame and glory (arena/arena.html pg. 1 lines 17-19).

As I watched "Gladiator" I felt like I had been given the rare opportunity to time travel back to the "glory that was Rome." From looking at images of ruins and re-creations of Ancient Rome on the Internet (www.iei.net/~tryan/walk.html), I knew the movie maker had been faithful to those people that had toiled so long and hard under the Italian sun for so many centuries to build this wonder of a city in the Ancient World. The Coliseum was especially impressive. From its magnificent size and underground chambers where the gladiators and exotic animals were kept to the trap door in the Coliseum floor, the architectural details were very factual. The citizens of Rome loved their games and the Coliseum could seat as the movie stated 50,000 of them.

The Crowd Roars for More
It may seem strange to us that the citizens of Rome loved to watch these games, they were brutal, bloody, savage and inhumane. But so was their existence. When the pax romana failed, the Republic failed with it. The people were once again faced with wars and barbarians. The city had become overcrowded and there were riots and plague. They had lost their precious right to vote. The games were used by the government to appease the masses. The games gave the people who had lost their personal power a chance to feel powerful again. They held the power of life and death in their hands; at the games anyway. The games were the biggest popularity contest in history. If the crowd liked you, it gave you thumbs up and you lived. If it did not like you, you got thumbs down and you died.

The games also had a political purpose - they entertained the masses and kept them distracted from the harsh realities of their own lives. They eliminated huge sectors of undesirable people from their population like unwanted slaves, criminals and prisoners of war.

No one really knows why the "Mob" liked the blood and gore so much; there is only speculation. Maybe the brutality of the games made their own lives seem easier. Maybe they had become so desensitized to killing and wars and battles that "playing" at war seemed mild in comparison to the real thing. Maybe they had become so vain and arrogant as to think that Romans were the only people that had a right to life. And worse still, maybe they had lost all ability to care and think for themselves and went along with whatever the government proposed and said was good for them. The fact remains that no matter how repulsive the idea seems to us, the Romans loved their games and the games gave them something they desperately needed. There is no denying the greatness of Rome and her vast contributions to the development of Western Civilization. I think the movie "Gladiator" comes very close to telling the truth about the lives and times of the Ancient Romans. I can honestly say that because of this movie and the research I have done, I found a lot of compassion for the people and understanding of the history of the Roman Empire.

However things are complicated when the makers of the show don't believe he won it fair and square since he's illiterate. That doesn't really bother the boy though as he actually went on the show to catch the eye of the girl he loves who he has lost contact with, someone he knows watches every episode.
